Edward Hopper Am. 1882–1967 Portrait of Marion Hopper, the Artist's Sister Dated and signed "Oct. 24, 1908, Ed." l.r. Pencil 7 3/8 x 5 3/8 in. 18.7 x 13.7 cm Property of Joan and Arthur Bugs Baer, Madison, Connecticut Provenance: A New York collector To Robert and Mary Jane Marentette Outer Cape Auctions (post auction sale) To the current owner July 13, 2008 Provenance: Edward Hopper left Paris in June of 1907. He then lived with his family in Nyack until he returned to Paris in March 1909. The Edward Hopper House Art Center archives in Nyack, New York include cards and correspondence to his family that were signed either "Ed" or "Eddie."The informal signature and date on this drawing suggests it was a gift to a family member and a copy of a very early photograph of Marion. Note her left “lazy” eye in the drawing that can also be seen in the photograph of her with her brother that is reproduced in most books on Hopper

Condition

Good condition, good appearance, proper nonacid backing but tape around extreme outer edges attaching it to the nonacid backing
