I remember that this one was a conscious reaction to the chairs I usually painted, which were plainer, more platonic, and Shaker style. I chose this one because it was so vernacular, and I made up that zazzy wall paper in the spirit of the LA punk scene--not Goth-y punk but closer to Elvis Costello and power pop--but also like something you might have found in the same vintage as the chair (30's?).
