British Naval Engagement Oil on canvas 12 x 16 in. 30.5 x 40.6 cm Property of Jessica Scully, Huntington, New York Provenance: Hartman Galleries, New York Art Seiden, 1968 By descent to his daughter, the current owner, Huntington, New York On an index card, Mr. Seiden recorded the Hartman Galleries provenance, dated the painting "circa 1840" and wrote "In decisive moment of first Opium War, Cihnese war junks defending Canton are blasted by British fleet including the paddlewheeler Nemesis, shown here in painting. China soon surrendered giving up Hong Kong."

Good appearance, fair condition, not lined, Significant scattered restoration primarily in sky, some in water, little on boats, not lined
